Quiet Holidays Mark Few Arrests in Mount Airy
Mount Airy and Surry County saw an unusually calm holiday period from December 24 to January 3 with police reporting about 30 arrests, only eight for alcohol. Chief W H Sumner credited orderliness and noted traffic congestion at Rockford Main and Pine Main as the main challenge. Deputy N A Lowe called it one of the quietest seasons on record.

Funeral services are held at 11 at the home for Mrs. Gertrude Gilmer Smith who died Sunday night at 708 North Main Street. She leaves three sons Cameron, Robert, and Andrew Smith. two daughters Mrs Paul M Kearny and Miss Gertrude Smith. five grandchildren and one great grandchild. one brother B G Gilmer and one sister Mrs George W Sparger. Burial is in Oakdale Cemetery with pallbearers named.

Danny Stimpson Funeral Monday
The funeral for Daniel Leon Stimpson 11 son of Conrat Stimpson and Doris Doub Stimpson was held Monday afternoon at Olivet Moravian Church. He died of uremia at Baptist Hospital Saturday. He was a Vienna School fifth grader. Survivors include his brother Karl and sister Marie both at home. The Stimpsons lived in Mount Airy and previously on Galloway Street and Park Drive.
