The North Carolina Historian Commission will place two markers in Surry County. One on the Dobson Mount Airy highway near White Plains Baptist Church will mark the burial site of Chang and Eng Bunker and their notable farming and business life. A second marker near Lowgap will note the lands once owned by Jesse Franklin when he served as Governor and later in the U.S. Senate.

Vaughan Rites Set Friday for Virginia Senator Vaughan
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Galax Virginia for Taylor G Vaughn 49 Republican state senator from Carroll and Grayson counties who died Wednesday night in Richmond. A Galax furniture manufacturer and former R J Reynolds employee Vaughan entered the senate in 1931 and spent most of 1940 absent due to illness. He was active in the mountain good roads movement and spoke at the Longap celebration last fall.

Yadkin Bridge Contracted to Link Dobson and Yadkinville
The state awarded contracts for a new Yadkin river bridge at Crutchfield and the remaining grading. The grading costs 19,700 dollars and the bridge 82,100 dollars. A span over railroad tracks will also be included, giving a direct, first class hard surfaced road between Dobson and Yadkinville.

Mrs Joe Folger Injured In Dobson Mount Airy Crash
Mrs Joe Folger of Dobson was injured in an auto accident seven miles from Mount Airy on the Dobson Mount Airy highway when the car she rode in struck a parked convoy truck. Patrolman Albert Stanley said the auto was meeting another car and collided with the truck which had halted to place flares on the pavement. The truck line owner traveled from Florida to address the wreck.

Shore Pleads Guilty Of Wrong Voting In 1938 Election
Thad W. Shore of Boonville pleaded guilty to a technical violation of election laws for voting in both Yadkin and Iredell Garry Counties during the 1938 election. Judge William B. Bobbitt fined Shore $100 plus about $350 costs. Shore is the son of Dr. T. W. Shore, Boonville, county Democratic committee chair. A special Iredell County venue was summoned to report Wednesday morning.
