Sabotage Delays WSYD Power Increase to 5000 Watts
Radio station WSYD Mount Airy 250 watt facility east of Mount Airy off the Flat Rock highway was sabotaged Sunday night. Hennis Epperson and Rastus Poore, operators, say the incident will push back the FCC approved power increase to 5000 watts by several weeks as workers finish new equipment and two towers.

Rev. J. C. Belton Dies At Age 76
The Rev James Oscar Belton of Bannertown Mount Airy died after a heart attack in a Greensboro hospital. Born May 10 1879 in Surry County he served as a stonecutter union secretary and later a Baptist preacher in several states for over 50 years. He survived by wife Mary J Shaw Belton three sons and five daughters and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mount Airy Officer Injured in Struggle During Arrest
Mount Airy police officer Keith T. Campbell suffered a possible broken foot while helping deputies arrest James Billy Hodge, 21. Hodge faced charges of drunk and disorderly conduct resisting arrest and hindering officers after a midnight incident at Toast. Deputy E L Quesinberry and Deputy Bill Lowe aided by Officer Henry Gardner and A C Seal assisted. both Hodge and Dallas Marion were bonded at $500 and set for Recorder's Court on March 12 with Judge R S Westmoreland.
