National Building Granite Quarries Association led by president J. D. Sargent seeks to change federal rules that ban granite in government construction. A January Washington meeting formed a committee chaired by Senator J. W. Bailey to press for an adjustment as 1400 post offices and other structures worth 350 million dollars are planned, with only 25 thousand dollars in granite contracts to date. Bailey plans direct congressional action and White House engagement to revive granite use.

Carroll Co. Farmer Held in Wife Murder Case
Otis Bond of Dug Div, Carroll County, is jailed in Hillsville on a charge of killing his wife. He allegedly shot her as she held their seven month old baby, the bullet hitting her chest and heart. Wife Injured in Willow Street Car Collision
Mrs G L Utt suffered painful injuries after being struck by a car driven by Mrs Pearl Hatcher near Renfro Hosiery Mills on Willow Street. The accident occurred about eight o clock as the couple’s car exited, the driver husband unaware of injuries as he drove away. The wife remains at home with a fracture of the bones referenced in the report.

Murderer of Galax Officer Is Captured
Howard Delp, sought for the death of Galax Chief Posey Martin, was captured after fleeing across county lines. He stabbed the chief in the jail office and was later taken to Wytheville for safekeeping as officers from two states pursued him. Slaughters Attend Funeral of Accident Victim
