Area Native Dies Saturday at Durham Hospital
Mrs. Josephine Poore Creel 39 of Durham died Saturday morning after months of illness in a Durham hospital. Funeral was at 11 yesterday at Durham First Baptist Church led by Rev. Dennis W. Hockaday. Born Mount Airy she was daughter of Joseph B. and Leota Lineback Poore. She attended Woman's College Greensboro and lived in Durham three years. Survived by husband Frank M. Creel district manager of Public Service Co. of NC with offices in Durham. two daughters Jo Allison and Kath Elizabeth Cree. her mother. grandmother Mrs. J Q Lineback. and brothers Russell A. Poore and Donald Poore. Final rites were at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Cars Collide At Oak and Riverside Streets
Clinton Alfred Childress, 27, of Mount Airy, drove south in a 1960 Buick about 10:15 a.m. Sunday toward Oak Street. Fred Lee Pack, 46, of Mount Airy, in a westbound 1865 Ford, ran the Oak Street stop sign and entered the intersection. The cars collided with about $500 total damage. No injuries were reported. Patrolman B R Goins investigated.

HD Club Units Discuss Projects At Annual Meet
The county chairmen of home demonstration club units met Friday at the Agriculture building in Dobson to plan county-wide projects across groups including safety, health, education, and recreation. The safety group, led by Mrs. Kemp Lewis, noted two poison control centers in Elkin and Mount Airy with a file of about a quarter million poisons and antidotes. The assembly endorsed Governor Sanford's six-point highway safety plan and called for safety checks of homes, fire hazard reviews, and a first aid course sponsored by each club.

Woman Charged In Fri Wreck
Judith Butcher Southern twenty four of 611 Hale Street Mount Airy started her 1950 Chevrolet from a parking place on Virginia Street near the railroad crossing Friday about noon. As she pulled into the line of traffic her vehicle collided with a 105 Chevrolet truck driven by Johnnie Walter Singletary of Mount Airy. Damages to the two vehicles were estimated at four hundred dollars. There were no personal injuries. The Southern woman was charged with failure to yield the right of way by Patrolman Kornell Hooker of the Mount Airy Police Department.

Shooting at Toast Grocery Leaves Man Shot and Charged
Teddy Butcher was shot in the abdomen after an argument with Enos Burrus at Toast Supermarket. Burrus was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and posted a $1000 bond awaiting March 11 court in Mount Airy. Butcher was treated and released from Northern Surry Hospital. Knife Affray Leaves Mount Airy Man Charged After Slashing
Around 9 pm Friday three men argued near a tavern outside Mount Airy NC 103 when Ben William Matthews 22 drew a knife and slashed two Reeves brothers. Edward Reeves suffered a deep abdomen wound. Charles Reeves had a coat cut. Matthews was arrested on assault with a deadly weapon charges and posted bond. Edward Reeves hospitalized in serious condition.
