About 300 gathered at the Detson court house for the Fifth District GOP convention. Nab Armfield, 52, a retired Winston-Salem businessman, accepted the nomination to run for U S Representative. Armfield led a large Freyth County delegation and vowed an aggressive campaign. Peter O Donnell, Texas GOP chairman, spoke in support of Goldwater, predicting 525 of 605 delegates. Funeral for Rev Bascom Rollins Held in White Plains
The Rev. Bascom G. Rollins 62 pastor of White Plains Friends Church died unexpectedly Thursday night after a heart attack. Funeral conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at White Plains Friends Church with Rev. Seth B. Hinshaw and Rev. William G. Guthrie officiating. Interment followed at New Garden Friends Church Cemetery Guilford College. Surviving are his wife Madge two daughters and four grandchildren plus five sisters and many in-laws and friends.

Three Bound Over On Robbery Charges
Three men accused of robbing a White Plains grocer on Feb 15 were bound over to Surry Superior Court by Justice of the Peace Earl Ramey in Mount Airy. Edward Dock Bennett of Ararat was held under 34000 bond. Robert Ray Fallin of Mount Airy posted 1300, and Jack Ed Haley of Mount Airy posted 7500 bond.

Surry Prepares 16 K O Polio Stations Sunday
Surry Yadkin Medical Society and volunteers ready 16 county feeding stations to immunize at least 80 percent of Surry's 50 000 residents against polio. Sugar cube and two drops deliver the vaccine with a second dose offered April 26.
