Burglar Alarm At Mercantile Co. Blazes Briefly
Early Tuesday morning the burglar alarm at Granite Mercantile Co on Galloway Street was set off by an undetermined cause. Officer C O Brinkley investigated, found no disturbance, and notified company president Lucien P Wrenn, who arrived and silenced the alarm.

Five Mount Airy pilots join the search for a F84 jet believed missing in North Carolina. Capt. James R. Bray alerted at 10:45 Tuesday night and briefing shifted to Dr. Carl L. Thomas early Wednesday. The plane was said to be on a celestial flight over the state with CAP pilots including Bray Wrenn Beamer Samet and Bowman.

The Granite Cutters International Union local sticks to a seven and a half cents per hour raise. Monroe Bateman says at the regular meeting no suggestions were offered. The North Carolina Granite Corporation offers two and a half cents. A Friday meeting will determine unemployment eligibility for idled workers.
