Fries Memorial Orchestra Concert At Grace Moravian Church

Surry farmers in arrears on farm loan payments will benefit from a Reconstruction Finance Corporation program. J. Old Confederate Veteran Dies in California at 85
Admyre Turner, Confederate veteran aged 85, died in California on February 15. He was buried in Forsyth County at Lewisville beside kin. Reared near Rockford North Carolina, he owned a Forsyth farm before moving to Winston-Salem and later California to live with a son. Most children remain in California.

Returns From Trip To South America
Fred Kirkman returned to his home in this city Monday after an extended tour of South American countries and points en route. He took a steamer at New York, visited Columbia, passed through the Panama Canal and stopped at ports on the Pacific coast as he made his way to San Francisco. Taking the train there he visited friends and relatives at Douglas, Arizona, on his return to Mount Airy. Mr. Kirkman cancelled a proposed side trip to the Hawaiian Islands on account of local disturbances that were brooding among the natives.

Free Noon Lunch For Children Program Begins This Week
Noon lunches for needy and unemployed children start this week at local schools. Kiwanis Club and Red Cross partner with the high school domestic science department to prepare soup and sandwiches. Grade mothers from the PTA supervise serving at North Main school while Rockford Street pupils go to the high school for meals. Granite Mercantile donates cups and spoons for North Main, and Rockford Street PTA purchases bowls and spoons for their serving needs.

Bicentennial Fire Destroys Booker Coal Co Office
Fire swept through the Booker Coal Co building on Galway Street around one o clock in the morning. The blaze destroyed office fixtures and damaged heavy coal scales with an estimated loss of about 2500 dollars, partly covered by insurance. Young Woman Dies Following Operation in Mount Airy
Patima Riddle born June 1 1911 died February 20 1932 at Martin Memorial Hospital after complications from an appendicitis. She was the daughter of Floyd and Mrs Riddle and leaves a family of two brothers and three sisters. Burial was at Hollow Springs with Rev W C C tent minister.
