Claude Robert Sheppard, 45 year old Surry County native, sought by law officers and merchants across North Carolina for forging checks in multiple cities. Man Nabbed While Attempting Local Break-In
Mount Airy police nabbed Rufus Pike 30 of Mount Airy Route 2 early Wednesday trying to break into a pool room. Officers Hart and Stevens caught him at the Health Center side entrance as he pried at a screen door with a screwdriver. Pike already faces breaking and entering charges and has prior road time for the offense.

Mount Airy officials protested the removal of U S Highway 52A from the state system arguing for a hearing delay. Local telegrams urged action while a motorcade to Raleigh formed.
