Load of tobacco brings $504 at Sovill Warehouse sale

Aged Confederate Veteran Passes at 92
William R. Marsh one of the county’s oldest Confederate Veterans died at his home on South Street Monday at age 92. The funeral was held from the home Tuesday with Rev. M. B. Phillips presiding and burial in Salem Cemetery.

Dr J T Smith and two sons visited his sister Mrs J L Harrison in Elkin last week. Mr Harrison plans to move to Washington State about March 1 for health reasons. Sleet caused injuries to several residents including Mrs J M Durham dislocating her hip and Mrs Sydnor breaking her arm. Dr J B Smith of Pilot Mountain recovering from a skull fracture after a fall from a horse. T N Brock bought the North Main street lot for 1600 dollars to build a residence this year. Dr W C Newbill died after two weeks of paralysis, buried at Oakdale cemetery. Dobson court grand jury found the county home in poor condition and the keeper, seen intoxicated, was removed. Miss Stella Poore hosted friends for a Nations game party. Cullen Merritt left for Florida to tend a ill child, later reports showed improvement.
