F. M. Poore Sr. dies at home after months of illness including blood poisoning. He ran Mount Airy’s grocery for nearly 50 years and served as secretary treasurer from 1904 to 1931 guiding city finances. He declined mayorships, helped youths, and was honored with Floyd Poore Park. Survived by wife Mary Atkins Poore, two sons Walter and Floyd Jr., daughter Mrs. Claude Shelton. funeral at Central Methodist Church.

In a receivership sale last Friday Charlotte Salvage Co. bought the Smith Bros. grocery stock for 2155 dollars, below the appraised value of 2500 dollars. Geo. K. Snow is receiver for the Mount Airy firm bankrupt weeks ago and will try to collect several hundred dollars in accounts before offering them at public sale.

Richard Reeves Dies After Gym Accident at App State
Richard Thompson Reeves eighteen son of Mr. and Mrs. R L Reeves of route one died Monday in Caldwell hospital Lenoir from a broken neck suffered during gymnasium practice at Appalachian State Teachers College where he was a student. He was knocked or fell to the floor Friday morning during athletic drills and died after his condition worsened. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Hollow Springs Pentecostal Church, the largest crowd in the church history attended. Rev O H Houser pastor of the church conducted the service.

Former Resident Mrs H C Brown Dies in Raleigh
Mrs. H. C. Brown widow of the late H. C. Brown a former Mount Airy banker and mayor died Sunday at her Raleigh home. She moved forty years ago with her husband who became a railroad commissioner. The Brown couple once lived on the J. A. Yakley site where Brown terraced and planted trees still admired today. She was sister of Mrs T Wilkinson mother of Mrs Yokley and of Mrs Sparger and Miss Bess Merritt. Funeral conducted Monday, body returned to the city.
