Walter R. Johnson 25 of Mount Airy faces charges after a two car crash on Riverside Drive near Galloway Street. Johnson drove a 1967 Pontiac north when a car slowed for a left turn, skidded off road, then collided with Tildon Dan Ramey 48 of Longapod. Johnson is accused of driving left of center and speeding beyond safe limits.

Funeral services for James Donald Poore 43 of Mount Airy were held at 11 a m at First Baptist Church following his death from a heart attack Sunday. He owned Lakeview Motel and Restaurant at Fancy Gap and was a member of the Hillsville Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife Gay Bondurant Poore a daughter Rita Williams Jr of Wilmington his mother and a brother Russell Poore. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery.

Arvek Columbus Ward age 49 died Thursday night when a fire destroyed his trailer home on route 4 in Mount Airy. Dana Fire Department reported arriving at about 4 15 with Ward found inside after extinguishing flames. Cause under investigation, neighbor heard an explosion. Funeral was Saturday at Friendly Tabernacle with burial at Midkiff Cemetery. He was born in Surry County to Walter and Della Collins Ward. survived by two sisters and two brothers.

Red Cross bloodmobile opens at Pilot Mountain United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. for a five and a half hour drive. James Phillip Tillotson of Troop 538 earned the God and Country honor in Sunday rites at First Baptist Church.
