Grand Jury Indicts Mrs. Alton Jarrell for Murder
The grand jury indicted Mrs. Alton Jarrell for the murder of her husband on the night of August 15 near this city. She allegedly cut his throat while he slept and wounded their seven year old son. she is hospitalized at Morganton with improving condition. Other cases noted include Floyd Stanley acquitted in the Jenkins shooting, embezzlement case for J. W. Frazier delayed, Emmett and Rhuby Golden convicted of liquor violations, and several larceny and assault prosecutions with sentences served or pending.

Chilton of Mount Airy Dies at 59 From Illness
R. F. Chilton died Wednesday morning at his Price Street home from pneumonia and fever after a weeklong illness. He was 59 and leaves wife Essie Smith of Virginia, five sons Coy Troy Beauford Albert Burgin, and one daughter Iris Chilton. A carver at Mount Airy Furniture, funeral at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church at 3 PM with Oakdale Cemetery interment.

Caught Selling Liquor In Court In Dobson Court House
Officers trapped Harley Wood in the court house ladies room with a pint of liquor ready for delivery to a customer. Edmonds and Hodge were found with nine pints in Hodge's old roadster and jailed after Wood posted bond. A separate raid uncovered a copper still and three pints at Jack Wood's Fish River property, with no arrests.
