Mount Airy police headquarters logged twenty two new cases over the weekend. Police accounted for one third of the arrests, with seven by state troopers and four by sheriff's deputies. Nine auto law violations were charged including four drunken driving cases, six liquor violations and seven miscellaneous offenses.

Tax Listing Penalty Now Is Effective
Surry County citizens who failed to list their real and personal property for taxes between January 2 and Saturday February 7 are now subject to a 10 percent penalty for late listing. The extended January 31 deadline was set aside due to snow and cold weather. Funeral services for Mrs Annie Monday Cox 80 of 130 Orchard Street Mount Airy widow of Charles Edmond Cox were conducted yesterday at 2 PM at Central United Methodist Church. She died Saturday at Forsyth Medicenter Winston Salem after a long illness. She leaves a daughter Ed Sparger and three sons James Jack Cox and Bill Cox plus sisters half sister and step mother. Bayley, blind, said delivery drivers struggled to locate his home, and the sign was built over a month with raised black letters on white. Youth Caught In Wild Chase Near Mount Airy
Mount Airy youths sparked a high speed pursuit after a hit and run on North Franklin Road. Scotty Joe Parker, 15, faced charges including larceny of an auto, felonious hit and run, resisting arrest, and failure to stop for a blue light after a Pontiac fled toward Gwynwood Drive and Franklin Road. Two injured were treated at Northern Surry Hospital. Parker was jailed for a juvenile hearing.
