Hunter sues seven tobacco warehouses in Mount Airy
J W Hunter operator of Hunters Tobacco Warehouse in Mount Airy filed a federal suit in Greensboro against seven other tobacco warehouse operators. He seeks treble damages of 44 400 plus six percent interest from November 17 and legal costs for alleged unfair allocation of selling space and baskets during the 1965 season. The case names New Farmers Warehouse Dixie Warehouse and others and considers market space calculations and equitable distribution. Hunter claims he held 27.98 percent of local market space but was allocated far fewer baskets per day. The action seeks court correction of space formulas and restraining orders plus attorney fees. A Lillington firm represents Hunter. defendants had not yet answered.

Heart Fund Poised To Launch Campaign In Surry County

Earl Dean Wray Rites Held at First Baptist
The funeral for Earl Dean Wray 70 of route 2 Mount Airy was held at First Baptist Church after he died Thursday night at Northern Surry Hospital from a heart attack. He was a barber Mason and choir director. Surviving are his wife Ida and children Carl Hilly and two daughters, plus 10 grandchildren and a great grandchild, with graveside rites at Midkiff Sutphin Cemetery.

A Mount Airy Negro girl and her mother have been granted a new trial after a $400,000 civil suit against Dr. Benjamin Lawrence. A Surry County jury acquitted Lawrence, but the North Carolina Supreme Court found the trial judge made a prejudicial comment in the jury's presence. New date and location pending.

Poster Girl Dies Monday in Hospital
Carolyn Dane Pylew, 1 percent, of 409 Jefries St Mount Atey, died yesterday morning in Baptist Hospital at Wolsten-Salem after a lingering illness. She was the 1464 Surry County Poster Girl for the March of Dimes. A native of Guilford County.
