Mount Airy Merchants Association held its annual banquet at the National Guard Armory drawing 800 attendees including members and wives. Ray's Star-lite catered buffet, red decor and Valentine motifs highlighted the evening. Paul Taylor presided with A B Macon giving invocation and Roy Hutchens as master of ceremonies as door prizes and prizes funded by local merchants were awarded. Directors and officers for 1963 were announced and the event marked the largest turnout to date with Les Daniels and his orchestra providing dancing.

The 49 year old has served as mayor, on county boards, and on various local organizations. The bank plans a Pilot Mountain branch mid summer with J Cecil Hill likely to manage. Surry town Shopping Center project planned for Mount Airy will be built by Nybor Corp across from a new post office, with initial 70,000 square feet of 130,000 planned, costing about one million dollars.

Deputies Find Property From Break-In At Piper's Gap Station

Funeral today for 74 year old White Plains official
The funeral for Thomas Merlin Thompson Robertson 74 of White Plains is set for 3 40 this afternoon at White Plains Friends Meeting House. He died Wednesday after a month illness. A Surry County Schools attendance officer for 15 years, he was also a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. Survived by his wife Betty M Robertson three brothers Sparger Gurney and Glenn Robertson and two sisters Mrs Howard Miller and Mrs Gaston Christian. Burial in church cemetery.

The Greater Mount Airy Dollar Days begins this morning with stores opening for business. The three day event runs today tomorrow and Monday featuring many items priced at one dollar. Merchants offer left over winter merchandise and special new stock. Free parking is available at Shoppers Parking lots and police direct traffic downtown. Rabies treatment begun after dog bite incident
A child was bitten by a dog and has received the first rabies vaccination dose. Officials said the remaining injections depend on locating and examining the dog. Taft Moser, county dog warden, was notified of the dog’s description and asked to seize the animal.
