A 55 gallon barrel of kerosene was stolen from Dixie Warehouse No. 2 on Worth Street. Entry was gained through a side door and police believe the barrel was loaded onto a vehicle. No other items were taken. Investigation was ongoing Monday.

Local Youth Arrested Here On Forgery Charges
A fifteen year old boy Joseph Adit McMillian of Mount Airy was jailed on $1,000 bond on two forgery counts. Two warrants by Wayne Boyles and Floyd Rees accuse him of passing forged checks and receiving goods. A $50 check at Rees Clothing on January 24 was accepted by Tommie Marion. a $63 check was passed at Boyles Shoe Store.

Harvey Puckett sixty five? seventy five? age seventy five of Cana Virginia was carried to City Hospital in Winston-Salem Sunday as a medical patient. He is under observation for a back ailment and expected to remain several days. He is father of Mount Airy policeman Tom Puckett and was foreman at Mount Airy Mantel and Table Company before retirement.

Three Teens Die In Night Car Crash Under Truck
Fred Davin Holder a 16 year old from Mount Airy Route 5 is jailed on charges of stealing a car reckless driving failing to stop and hit and run. The stolen car belonged to Fred Samuels of Mount Airy and Holder allegedly used cars by entering unlocked ones. Police say he habitually "borrows" cars and sometimes wrecks them.

Two Men Caught Here With Narcotics Moved To Twin City Jail
Two of the three men arrested with a narcotics load near here last Tuesday night have been moved to Forsyth County Jail in Winston-Salem. Sheriff Neal Thompson cited safe keeping and federal interest as reasons while noting the third man Ray Hemmings remains in Dobson. Cordell Hull MecPeak of Jacksonville Florida and Leland Campbell of Bowling Green Kentucky were moved Saturday night. Campbell has prior sentences for safe cracking and manslaughter.

No New Development In Work Stoppage At Quarry
John P. Frank, president of the North Carolina Granite Corporation, says there were no new developments Monday in the Flat Rock quarry stoppage that idled about 300 workers. A few men remained on loading and chicken grit work while most were idle. no negotations meeting has been set though talks are reportedly still open after the January 31 wage deadline.

Sgt McPeak Receives Good Conduct Medal in Germany
Army Sergeant First Class Raymond McPeak son of William B MecPeak of Mount Airy was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in Germany while serving with the 1st Infantry Division. An aircraft technician at division artillery headquarters he earned the decoration for exemplary behavior and efficiency. Mrs. Dorothy Copeland McRoberts 47 wife of Joseph Dan McRoberts of 418 Mill Street died at home after a long illness. Born June 7 1907 in Carroll County Virginia she is survived by her husband four daughters and several siblings. A Dobson trial begins next week for Mrs. Lelia Thomas charged with the pistol murder of her husband Elwood Thomas on March 6 1954 at a two room shack on Lowgap road. The case includes witnesses Elbert Gwyn and Ralph Stanley and details about the scene and occupants. Also on the docket are narcotics cases for five Mount Airy men and a manslaughter case involving Wayne Thomas over a 1934 car chase and crash.

Three Teenagers Die In Highway 601 Tragedy Near Mount Airy
A car carrying Surry County teens Arnold Bledsoe 17 Paul Pratt 19 and Ira Jenkins 21 collided with a slow-moving tractor trailer on Highway 601 nineteen miles south of Mount Airy. The crash occurred around 10 15 p m near Chaneys Place. The truck driver John Spence 42 of Savannah Ga said he was about 25 mph when he felt a bump and found the car jammed beneath the tail of the trailer. The three youths died on arrival at Elkin Hospital with coroner noting likely neck or skull fractures. Funeral details for Pratt and Bledsoe pending. Jenkins funeral planned at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Tuesday.
