E L Patterson of this city is in critical condition at St. Hospital Greensboro with a severe heart ailment. He left for Greensboro January 25 to visit son Maurice Patterson, was admitted last week and placed in hospital Saturday night. Known as Uncle Ed, he aided in listing taxes and resides with his sister-in-law Mrs C H Haynes. At his bedside are four daughters and three sons. He is nearing his ninety first birthday and is a brother of Mrs John T Moore. He married Hattie Bunker, daughter of Chang Bunker. Patterson is a native of Surry County, son of the late Martin L and Minerva Jessup Patterson.

State Patrolman C N Jones took a day off to assist Mrs Roy Collins of East Poplar Street, a widow with seven year old daughter, by arranging a coal delivery. A truck carried a load through sleet and snow, unloading in three hours, no labor charge made, as Jones helped a neighbor in need during severe winter weather.

Scenic Toll Fees Scrapped on Blue Ridge Parkway Plan

Born April 8 1881 in Surry County he was married to Mazie Shaw and belonged to Banner Town Baptist Church and Mount Airy Granite Lodge No. 322 A E F and A M. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bannertown Baptist Church with Masonic honors at Oakdale Cemetery.
