Funeral for J. W. Worrell age 3 of 215 Orchard Street Mount Airy was at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev Kenneth Wilson. He died Friday at Northern Surry Hospital after three days as a patient. Native of Carroll County Virginia son of Louis and Hannah Worrell. Survived by wife Anna Martin Worrell son James Lee Worrell of Roanoke daughters Mrs C M Walls Fort Pierce Mrs Calvin Smith Greensboro Mrs George T Wilson Charleston seven grandchildren nine great grandchildren. Burial Oakdale Cemetery.

Jack Brown reports the fourth break-in in eight months at Brown's Garage on Dixie Street. Thieves pried a window Saturday night, stole about $25 from a soft drink machine, 50 spark plugs, and hand tools, and rifled desk contents. Police are investigating with assistant manager Oliver Smith noting the theft.

Youths To Get Hearing In Postal Theft Case

Rustlers Strike Reward Offered in Westfield Cattle Theft
Westfield man offers 100 for information leading to capture of cattle rustlers who stole a 200 cow from James H. Jessup’s pasture. The herd had 30 head. 20 remain as concern grows about further losses. The animal was taken through a back gate about half a mile from the Jessup home. Precautions and daily checks were hinted at to prevent a repeat theft.

Three Injured In Oak Street Collision
Three persons were injured Friday morning in a crash at Renfro and East Oak Street involving a small foreign car and a larger domestic vehicle. Willan Clarence Jenkins, 32, of Ararat Virginia, drove a Volkswagen West on East Oak Street. Frances Craughn Heflin, 25, of Mount Airy, drove a 1949 Plymouth South on Renfro Street. All three injured victims were taken to Northern Surry Hospital. Damages to the Volkswagen were $500. Plymouth damage was estimated high. No charges were filed by the investigating officer.

Service Station Hit By Thieves In Pipers Gap
Thieves broke into Pipers Gap Service Station and U Grocery on Pipers Gap Road. Missing were cigarettes, coins, cakes, cookies, bread, crackers, sandwich spread, and bologna after breaking the front door glass and entering. Deputies investigated Friday morning with several leads but no arrests.

Denver Reid Martin 22 of Mount Airy was listed in satisfactory condition after an auto accident Sunday on NC 103 north of Mount Airy near the Virginia line. His car veered across the state line, ending about 10 feet inside Virginia. Two passengers escaped injury. Martin received head cuts at Northern Surry Hospital and was later moved to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Garbage and Linen Trucks Collide in Mount Airy
A garbage truck and a linen delivery truck collided on South Main Street near Worth Street in Mount Airy. The 1954 Chevrolet linen truck from Winston-Salem, driven by Donald Gray Beverly, and the 148 GMC garbage truck driven by Floyd Franklin King with passenger Coy Martin, sustained about $350 in damage. King stated he did not see the other vehicle. No charges were filed.
