Indian Physician Must Leave State To Live With White Wife
Dr. G. W. Locklear an Indian from Pembroke Robeson County was indicted for violating North Carolina laws against intermarriage for marrying a white woman in Atlanta. He pleaded guilty and the judge deferred judgment as they agreed to return to the state where they were married after paying costs. The trial saw the woman’s father a prominent Atlanta attorney assist in his defense. This is Robeson County’s first case of its kind.
