In a fogbound Atlantic dawn the liner Nan tucket rammed and sank the steamer Monroe. Forty three souls perished while 91 survivors were rescued by the Nantucket. Captain Johnson and all officers escaped. an inquiry by the Federal Steamboat Inspection Service will follow.

Pardons For Aged Inmates At North Carolina Penitentiary
Governor Craig granted clemency to six elderly prisoners in the state penitentiary and released two others.
