Radio marathon in Mount Airy raises polio drive funds
Dr C L Thomas, public director of the Surry County polio drive, called a radio request marathon a great success. By Monday noon donations stood at 625.10 with more money to come, and organizers expect the total to exceed 1,060. The Surry Shrine Club sponsored the program with firemen and Boy Scouts assisting.

Surry Man Injured When Auto Overturns
Bobby Dean Inman 21 , farmer of Westfield, was injured about 6 p m Sunday when his car overturned on a curve two miles west of Westfield. He was thrown about 100 feet, suffered head lacerations, and was taken to Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem where he was treated and released. The crash occurred as his car failed to negotiate the curve. Two men were injured on the same curve Saturday afternoon.

The 1966 first meeting of the county council elected Weldon Denny ASC manager as chairman with Nellie Waddell as secretary. Twenty one members attended as committees were named for program direction publicity and steering work. The council created a publicity director post to be filled by Ernest Arnold and plans a steering committee led by Denny with agency heads and local leaders. New York Man Named to Replace Mrs Marshall as Cancer Society Veep
Frank Webster of New York City was appointed by the State Executive Committee of the American Cancer Society to replace Mrs. George E. Marshall as State Executive Vice President. The meeting was held at the state headquarters on North Main Street. Mrs. Marshall will remain VP until Webster arrives in spring and will become VP Emeritus and Historian thereafter. McHone Guilty on Liquor Charge in Mount Airy Court
Howard F. McHone of Mount Airy was found guilty of possessing and transporting illegal tax paid liquor for sale. He received an eight month road sentence suspended on good behavior for two years, plus $300 and court costs, with an appeal filed and bond set at $1,000. Trial date in the Dobson Superior Court to follow. The case had earlier been continued amid questions about admissibility of patrolman Howell’s January 18 search.
