Community Chest Appeals For $500 Additional Cash
Ministers and officials of the Community Chest met in the city hall to plan aid for more than 100 Mount Airy families facing hunger cold and lack of clothing. Treasurer Robert M. Smith said $500 more is needed to cover relief until warm weather. Last week $395 was spent on food with ongoing needs for clothing fuel and medical supplies. An attorney R A Freeman of Dobeon is ill and confined to his room as the group reports Florida temperatures.

Taxi Drivers in Mount Airy Required to Display Permits
Mount Airy police began enforcing a new ordinance this week requiring taxis to display speed regulators a 40 mph limit driver photographs and valid drivers permits on the vehicle at all times. Taxi owners have been slow to obtain driver permits. Beginning Thursday drivers without permits cannot operate within city limits.

He had just left a two month hospital confinement for a Florida trip with W. A. Alderman of Galax, Va. Funeral to be held in Philadelphia Sunday. Mount Airy and Galax stores closed until Monday. Survived by father S and S Zack and a sister, both of Philadelphia.
