FBI Chief to Speak to Mount Airy Jaycees

A World War II veteran, Wright, was convicted of second degree murder in the shooting of Ira Stoker in the Thurmond area of northwest Surry. The trial explored possible German American band activities in Surry county and Wright’s alleged refusal to join. He received a 12 to 17 year sentence in Raleigh state prison.
