Resident Seeks Court Order Over Home Business

A Mount Airy resident files a civil suit in Dobson seeking a temporary restraining order to stop neighbor S. K. Harrell from using his Spring Street home to run an oil business. The plaintiff, J. Earl Ramey, says he asked Harrell to quit and has not complied. No damages are requested, but the suit seeks costs and further relief as the court deems proper.

Glee Club Filmed Here For TV Presentation

WSLS-TV Roanoke will film Mount Airy High School Glee Club Friday for Channel 10 airing. The group will perform Handel Messiah numbers Hallelujah Chorus and Glory of the Lord plus Carol of the Bells medley. Sponsor is Cos ten Lindsay of WPAQ Radio Station.

Surry County Board Grants Final Approval for $1 Million School Bonds

The Surry County Board of Commissioners gave final approval for the sale of $1 million in school bonds for Surry schools, with bond sale already completed last week. Superintendent J. Divorces Granted In Superior Court

Four divorces were granted in Superior Court at Dobson this week by a Surry County jury. The pairs are Bernice Olivia Lynch and Ralph Henry Lynch, Rebecca Massey Martin and John L. Martin, Betty L. Wagoner and H. D. Wagoner, and Mary A. Carlton and Jesse B. Carlton.

College Day Draws 250 Students to YMCA Event

More than 250 high school students from Mount Airy and surrounding towns attended the Tuesday College Day at the Mount Airy YMCA. Twenty five college representatives spoke on admission requirements and campus life, with attendees from Elon, Duke, UNC, Wake Forest and others. County Superintendent J Sam Gentry called the program successful and hopeful for annual continuation.

New residents Mr and Mrs Roy Gilley formerly of Wytheville Virginia settle on Church Street with three daughters. Mr Gilley becomes Amoco Super Service manager. City To Buy New Police Car In Mount Airy

Mount Airy will replace its 1955 Chevrolet police car with a new 1956 57 model after 70 000 miles. Commissioners told Chief M W Boone bids will be mailed to local dealers for the purchase.

Hospital Board Shakeup Brings R J Harris as Finance Chair

Surry County commissioners at their Dobson meeting removed J W Gordon from the Northern Hospital board and named R J Harris to head the finance committee. The change follows Gordon's recent appointment as hospital finance chair and affects ongoing governance of the 100 bed facility. David L Hiatt was reappointed to the board for five years, as Harris and Hiatt join Jones and Simmons on key committees.

Joe Jackson Plans Water Lines in South Mount Airy Area

Local businessman Joe Jackson told city commissioners Tuesday night he will install water lines in a new South Mount Airy residential area. They agreed to refund the full line cost after five homes are built. estimated total is about 5000 dollars. The Jackson owned property lies behind Barber Hosiery Mill within the corporate limits.

No Opposition To Sidewalks To Hospital

Report notes no opposition to building sidewalks on the north side of Rockford Street to the new hospital. Two Black residents and Judge H. H. Llewellyn attended a public hearing Tuesday night. After officials explained city grading and that property owners would bear sidewalk costs, attendees expressed agreement. The commissioners emphasized sidewalks are necessary for pedestrian safety en route to the hospital.

Pilot Mountain Band Seeks Uniform Fund Drive

The Pilot Mountain School Band plans new uniforms and extra instruments funded by a Band Parents Club. A committee met to organize immediate fundraising, aiming for about $2,500 for uniforms at $55 each and potential $200 from a light bulb sale. The goal is to enter the District Music Festival in High Point.

Jurors Named for January Court for Dobson District
