Five Year Old Injured in Auto Accident Sunday
Clinton Goins five year old son of Jesse Goins of Brewers Springs section was seriously hurt Sunday about 4 00 PM when his leg was caught and broken in the right rear wheel of an auto. The lad was going home from an afternoon church service and climbed a bank beside the road as a car believed to belong to Bud Bishop approached. He was treated at Martin Memorial Hospital and is improving. The car owner Bud Bishop is being held for a hearing Monday.

Dobson Men Injured In Wreck Near Boone Hill
Robert Freeman Jr and Glenn Brown of Dobson were injured when their car left the highway near Boone's hill and plunged 20 feet down an embankment. Freeman had a badly cut scalp while Brown sustained a severe ear injury. They were treated at Martin Hospital. the car, a new Oldsmobile, belonged to attorney R A Freeman of Dobson and was totaled.

Wreck injures mother and daughter near Dobson on Elkin highway
Mrs. Lela Hayes and her daughter Lula were struck by a hit and run car while walking along the Elkin highway near a Dobson filling station. Mrs. Hayes suffered a broken leg in three places and Lula was severely bruised. both were taken to Martin Memorial Hospital. The car fled the scene after colliding with the Hayes party.

The Soil Conservation Service in the county will start a 10 acre forestry demonstration tract in the Mount Airy watershed. About 2000 boys from Camp Dobson are expected to help within a week while engineers map work plans with farmers and other sites. D D Sizer states strong county interest with 21 farmer applications and nine surveys complete. The program includes extensive reforestation and seed collection of chestnut pin and other species, to be grown in a nursery for transplanting later.

Rockford Man Speaks on Death Then Dies at Picnic
Ben Swartz a 70 year old Rockford resident and toll bridge attendant spoke of dying with speed and little hardship. Minutes later he collapsed from a heart attack and died after gasping for breath. He was a native of Germany and a skilled woodworker known for crafting with metal and wood. Dr J T Burrus, a doctor visiting the area, was present at the gathering.

Dairies Earn A Grade Milk Certificates In Mount Airy
The Surry County Health Department tested milk from nine Mount Airy dairies and all earned grade A certificates. Cattle at these dairies were TB and Bangs disease tested. no TB reactors were found while nine Bangs disease reactors were destroyed. Inspections averaged six to eight per dairy over the past three months.

Surry County commissioners meet with WPA representative W H Powell to outline a school building program. Plans authorize Engineer I W Barber to prepare specs for additions at Beulah Dobson Westfield and a four room Elkin high school, plus Rockford Street repairs in Mount Airy. Total project cost around $30 000 with WPA providing 20 percent of labor and material. September 10 is the deadline to apply.

Local Boys Steal Autos to Get Ride
Raymond Anderson and Wilson Bowman, both thirteen, are charged with stealing three cars and tires on Monday night. The spree began with a taxi owned by Emory Lundy of Galax, found wrecked near White Prains. Officers spotted the boys fleeing a Granite City Motor Co. lot where a light coupe, tires, and bulbs were taken. They abandoned the car on Lowgap road and fled into the woods, narrowly missing a collision with a police car. the other stolen car belonged to Zack Carpenter near the town edge. The pair reportedly admitted involvement in all three thefts.
