Mr and Mrs T B Pardue announce the engagement of their daughter Martha Magdalene Pardue to Wade Mitchell Moore son of D L Moore of this city and the late Mrs Moore. The wedding will take place in the Pall.
Mrs. Charles Randall Welch welcomes a son Charles Randall Welch born August 1 weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces. Clinton Hugh Horton and Olene Goard's daughter Phyllis Jean born August 6 weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces in Fancy Gap Virginia. Martha Lee Williams born August 6 weighing 6 pounds 14. Linda Suzanne Belton born August 8 weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces. David Michael Utt born August 14 weighing 5 pounds 3 ounces. Melba Gail Gwyn born August 20 weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces. Kenneth Norman Hodges born August 24 weighing 6 pounds.
Mrs. Arvil Bledsoe formerly Miss Faye Cook was guest of honor at a mixed shower Friday evening August 20 hosted in the home of Mrs. Sam Joyce. Misa Rachel Joyce and Misa Marilyn Cook coordinated late summer floral decor and games with prizes. About 25 guests attended and refreshments were served. Mrs. Hodges was identified as the former Miss Mary Ann Smith. Frankie Ann Creed was born August 25 to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Milton Creed route 4, weight six pounds ten and a half ounces. the mother is the former Connie Sue Anderson.
Little Miss Pam Taylor daughter of Mr and Mrs Louie Taylor celebrated her fifth birthday Sunday with a party in her honor. Guests included Dianne Watson Linda Haynes Darlene Cook Dale Brown Kay Miller Charles Cook Larry Kizer Jane Venable Harry and Gilmer Robertson Guy and Judy Edwards Linda Johnson Betty Johnson Dwight Mike Coleman Jackie Taylor Judy Childress and Susan Childress. Cupcakes and colas were served and Pam received many gifts.
About 85 Mount Airy Girl Scout girls attended a week long day camp at Whispering Pines farm near the city. They participated in outdoor activities arts and crafts and improvisations using sticks and cord for supplies. Troop units were named Holly Heaven The Rock The Bee Hive and The Shady Grove with leaders guiding Brownie and senior units.
Highland Park Baptist Church holds Homecoming Sunday with Sunday School at 9 44 a m and worship at 11 00 a m The noon picnic follows and an evening service features coordinators for intermediates and seniors Business manager is Mrs Hele Yokley Rev W L Jenkins will resign to become a missionary with the Sunny Bagtiat Association headquartered in Mount Airy on August 30.
Mr and Mrs K A Maulteh and baby of Greensboro spent the weekend with Mr Maullaby s parents Mr and Mrs G E Ott. Mr and Mrs Harley Gray of Washington DC were weekend guests of Mrs J C Council and Mr and Mrs W R Lockleni. Mrs Gray in the former Mina Let tie Herring.
