Virginia Youth Dragged by Scared Mule
Bruce Edwin Harold aged 14 son of Fulcher Harold of Ararat Virginia was thrown from a mule and dragged for about a quarter mile. A barking dog startled the mule causing the accident as it headed toward a church cemetery. The mule halted at the church and a passing farmer rescued him, taking him to Martin Memorial Hospital for treatment of an injured foot and cuts before his release.

Three Dogs Attack Mount Airy Girl
Six year old Mamie Jo Beasley, daughter of Mrs Fannie Beasley, was bitten several times on the left arm by three dogs while playing in her grandmothers' backyard in Mount Airy Monday morning. Police failed to locate the dogs but later reported one had been shot. the injury was not considered serious.

Larceny Ring Leaders Sentenced in Mount Airy Court

Child Dies After Auto Struck Near Martin Memorial Hospital
Six year old Jeanette Smith died at Martin Memorial Hospital at 10 am Tuesday from injuries after being struck by Dr. Robert J. Lovill who was driving north on South Street. The girl ran from behind a parked car into the road at about 4 pm. Dr Lovill turned to avoid her and veered into a ditch. A warrant for man slaughter was issued for Dr Lovill. Burial followed at Oakdale Cemetery with services at the maternal grandparents home. Survived by parents Arthur R and Catherine Talley Smith, brother Charles Raymond and sister Bettie Lou, and grandparents from Galax and Mount Airy.
