The car struck a guard rail after rolling into a Chevrolet. no one else injured. He was a Bassett Furniture retiree and Rockford Street Methodist member, survived by wife Myrtie Lowry Ausburne, two sons, a brother and three sisters. Funeral at Rockford Street Methodist Church with Moody's Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Three area women were hospitalized after a two car collision on NC 89 seven miles east of Mount Airy near Westfield. Theft Of Coins From Five Local Machines Reported
Five businesses suffered coin losses over the past week as vending machines were broken open. Speed Wash on Main Street, Triangle Launderette and Willbamcon Fest Station on Lebanon Street, Bright Leaf Drive-In Theatre and Toast Car Wash reported coin thefts. About $40 in coins were taken with several machines damaged. police follow a definite lead with no arrests yet.

Area law enforcement reported a busy three days with 43 percent of docket arrests. Red Cross Bloodmobile Visits Surry County
The Red Cross Bloodmobile comes to Dobson on Wednesday from 12 noon to 6 pm at the county agricultural building and to Pilot Mountain Thursday from 11 am to 5 pm at the Methodist Church. Wreck on Rockford Street Involves Shinault and Cassell
A 1982 Ford driven by Mabel Frances Shinault and a 1951 Ford driven by Roy Wayman Cassell collided near Graves Street on Rockford Street. No injuries reported and damages estimated at 425 dollars.
