Police Baptism of Fire in Hot City Chase
Officers Snow and Brannock pursued a Ford roadster carrying three suspected liquor violators from Wilkes through Rockford Street toward Winston-Salem. The fleeing car opened fire, damaging Snow’s windshield as the officers returned fire. two bullets hit the radiator and one struck the tank, forcing a stop. The suspects escaped toward Pilot Mountain, with the officers reporting to Winston-Salem police.

A group of orders signed by Judge Johnson J. Hayes in the middle district federal court discharged five firms and individuals from bankruptcy. George K. Snow, attorney for Boyles Brothers Inc of Mount Airy, was allowed a $150 fee on recommendation of L. C. McKaughan acting as special master who received $7.50. From asset sales $2,500 was realized and after costs the balance was distributed among $250 secured creditors and $7,988 unsecured creditors.

County to Name Farmers Council for New Agent
County commissioners plan to form a Farmers Council to work with the new county farm agent W C Taylor, who will move to the county and start July 1. The council will include two farmer reps from each township and meet monthly at the courthouse to discuss rural issues and assist the agent. The council will be non political in membership.

Doesnt Pay To Appeal From Recorder According To Judge
In the Dobson Superior Court this week Ben Terry pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon on H. T. Moore his father in law after earlier deserting his family. Moore, who hosted Terry’s wife and three children, was struck with a rock fracturing his skull. Moore spent weeks in hospital and still suffers from the injury. Terry fled the country and was jailed in Dobson upon capture. The case followed with another incident where John Henry and Bob Wood were convicted for attacking Bird Simpson, leaving Simpson concussed and mentally unbalanced for weeks. The Woods were jailed after capture in February. A third trial involving an embezzlement defendant from Elkin drew crowds as many locals expected to attend. The judge noted appeals from small cases are not worthwhile, citing Asberry Myers and Neil McCraw, fined $100 each for violating prohibition, who appealed to the Superior Court. the judge suggested paying the fine and serving 18 months on roads if unpaid. Judge Walter E. Moore of Sylvia presides and is praised for his orderly court. Sheriff Smith leads the audience to stand for the proclamation, a traditional opening in Surry courts. The grand jury list includes R. A. George as foreman and other named jurors.
