Milton, a town near Tacoma, imposes a five dollar annual tax on all bachelors living there. The council hopes wives will be brought in to boost population. Several single men threaten to move their residence elsewhere in retaliation.
An advertisement asserts epilepsy and other nervous disorders are curable by strengthening the nervous system with Dr Miles Nervine. It cites testimonials and urges readers to obtain the medicine from their local druggists, noting a money-back offer for the first bottle.
Public sale under 1907 Surry Superior Court order will auction three properties in Mount Airy on May 18, 1908 at 1 PM. The lots include the Gallaway home place on Main Street with garden, the J L Belton house lot near Main Street and a vacant street lot. Terms show six months and twelve months payments. Commissioner DeWitt's Little Early Risers liver pills advertised by J. H. Gwyn.
Trustee R C Lewellyn announces a cash public auction at Dobson Court House on May 16 1908 at 1 PM. The sale, to satisfy an unpaid bond secured by a deed of trust dated October 10 1907, covers land described as 100 acres in Dobson Township with metes and bounds to stake lines and corners.
