Mr and Mrs Thomas W Johnson of route 4 received a letter confirming their son Pfc W Ollman Johnson 18 died of wounds in Germany after being struck by machine gun fire February 25 and dying February 28 in evacuation hospital. He was a rifleman awarded the Combat Infantryman’s badge and was buried with Protestant army chaplain rites in a well kept Holland cemetery.

Jackson and R. R. Jackson, local merchants.

Venable Youth Dies In Train Accident
Funeral services were held for Jonah Sam Venable 22 of Route 4 at Moody Funeral Chapel. He died in West Virginia March 29 after being overcome by smoke on a platform as a train entered a tunnel. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery. Survived by parents Mrs and Mr Ed Venable a sister Hettie May and brothers Grady and Junior.

Pfc Cecil Rogers Killed in France During 1944 War

Pfc. Claude Kidd of Dobson has been released from a German prison camp by a recent Russian drive into Nazi territory. He was reported missing then found to be a prisoner. His father Tom Kidd was notified by telegram and told he may send his son a 25 word telegram.

Navy Enlists 17 Year Olds From Mount Airy Area
Seventeen year old youths from Mount Airy area were accepted at the Navy Recruiting Station last Friday and departed Monday for Raleigh for final medical checks and enlistment.
