North High student wins World Peace Study contest 1969
Charles Turpin, president of the North Surry High School Student Body, won the 23rd World Peace Study and Speaking Program. Runner-up was Jack Reynolds with Paul Hodges taking third. Cathy Easter and Alice Stafford were semi finalists. Turpin earns a memorial scholarship and a bus trip to New York City and Washington, D.C. He is an All-County basketball selection and District 7AAA member. He is a senior son of C. B. Turpin and Mrs. Turpin of White Plains.

Minor Miracle: Four Vehicles Hit No Serious Injuries Reported

Police investigate two larceny cases and one attempted larceny in Mount Airy Granite City. A change machine at Triangle Cleaners on West Lebanon Street lost 60 to 75 dollars Wednesday night. About 55 dollars was taken from Speed Kingz Launderette on Rockford Street. Thieves drilled two holes in the Triangle Cleaners machine at Mayberry Mall but failed to open it.

Air Tour Slow Weekend Curtails Carolina Event
The weatherman forecast rain and thunderstorms curtailing activities for a Carolina Air Tour held Saturday. Mount Airy airport manager Dave McGavock said there were no local participants and few from outside, with only four planes landing in the morning from High Point and Greensboro.

Arrests Recorded During Past Weekend At Mount Airy
Thirty-five new cases were placed on the records at Mount Airy police headquarters over the past weekend. Of the total arrests, 21 were by policemen, ten by state troopers and four by deputies. Twenty-one of the cases involved liquor law violations, ten were for auto law infractions including seven cases of drunken driving, and the remainder were for miscellaneous offenses.
