Iowa drivers must obtain a 1932 license before January 1 and answer numerous questions at the treasurer’s window. Nonowners pay 25 cents for a two year slip. vehicle owners receive the license free. Questions cover age, sex, weight, height, color traits, marital status, driving history, insurance, disabilities, sight and hearing, prior licenses, suspensions, and English comprehension.
The Tharp and Moots second reunion was held at Leighton Park Ottumwa on September 13. A noon picnic followed by a program included readings by Ardythe Cassel and Darline Tharp and a history read by Lent Wilcox. 125 attendees listed numerous families and local officers planned Bloomfield as next year’s site.
Community notices from Centerville and nearby towns highlight visits, hospital transfers, and gatherings. Notables include Dick and Bertram Johnson at Iowa City, Mr. and Mrs. Riggs in Des Moines, and Ardythe Bennett’s birthday party. A St Joseph Centerville birth is announced, and local clubs meet. Residents seek health and education moves, with several relatives visiting kin across Albia, Ottumwa, Fairfield, and Unionville.
Daniel Noonan a longtime Wabash agent in Coatsville died at home Sunday from a heart attack at age 72. He served 42 years with the railroad, married Emma Bright, with two infants who died. Survived by wife, a brother, relatives, many friends. Funeral Tuesday from the home conducted by Father Roland of Centerville. burial in Coatsville cemetery.
Washington Township Farm Bureau held its regular meeting on September 16 at Center Schoolhouse. County Agent Leo Bowdish presented moving pictures while Mrs. Jean Randlett of Fargo, North Dakota spoke on a larger map. Music by Tommy Main complemented the event, and refreshments of pie and sandwiches were served.
The Ladies of Washington Township held an all day meeting September 15 in the Methodist church basement. Mrs. Jean Randlett of Fargo NC spoke for McCormick Harvester Co. on poultry raising and hen profits. Leo Bowdish secured her for the event. A cooperative noon dinner followed and a committee was named to arrange the regular Ladies Farm Bureau lessons starting in October with details to be announced.
Word has it that Moulton will meet Unionville on the Missouri diamond next Sunday in a money series between four leading clubs of the InMo league. The Unionville Centerville clash last week went 13 innings to a scoreless tie, with Cunningham and Hampton in a pitching duel that kept fans on edge.
Mrs. S. J. Ransom a well known Moulton resident died at her daughter’s home last Thursday at age 61 6 28. Born Clementine Elizabeth Rogers near Moulton she married Samuel J. Ransom in 1892 and raised five children. She lived on farms near Orleans and Moulton before moving to California and Pomona then returning to Moulton in 1931. She was active in Orleans Christian Church and Rebekah lodge. Survived by husband and five children and many relatives. Burial followed at Oakland cemetery after services conducted by Dr. Mott R. Sawyers and Rev. V. S. Stagner.

W F Stober marked 73 years at his home in west Moulton and celebrated the 18th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Ivy Underwood now in Newton. Gifts arrived from friends and relatives as the gathering extended best wishes for many more happy years. Attendants included Ivy Underwood and son Lowell Lewis Underwood Ruth Dixon Edna Dixon all of Newton Roy Henderson and daughters Pauline and Christine Coatsville Mo Maryetta Wood of Moulton.
A severe Thursday night storm struck the community near Moulton. Lightning hit the Fred Horn home southeast of Moulton, damaging the chimney and two rooms and causing havoc in the house. No fire occurred. The storm also damaged other properties and a new barn on Virgil Staley’s farm northwest of Moulton was completely destroyed.
Sunday school at 10 a m with preaching in the evening at 8 p m. The message urges Bible study as relief during financial stress, noting scripture offers stability through trials. It invites those without a church home or Presbyterians to attend, stressing small class sizes and opportunities to share personal problems and opinions.
A two part storm hit Bloomfield shortly after 3 pm with a funnel cloud and baseball sized hail. Damage eclipses 300000 dollars in Bloomfield and thousands in Pulaski and Floris with many roofs broken windows and uprooted trees. Davis county courthouse and schools suffered extensive damage, service disrupted, and repairs underway with roofing and glass supplies rushed in.
Methodist Church outlines weekly schedule with sermons on faith and devotion. A sermon series will use a Moon Furniture Store window display showing a picture of the ocean prompting reflection on spiritual life. Frank A. Wilder, Minister, invites all to attend Sunday services and evening program using Hofmanns Christ in Gethsemane.
The Christian Church plans worship and teaching next Sunday from 9 30 to 11 15 am with a sermon titled The Challenge of Home Missions. A brief dedication last Lord s Day set apart new hymn books Worship and Hymns for the church and Christian Endeavor. Evening service is at 8 with a sermon Christ and Men of Brains on Church Family Night. Attendance records are requested. A 3 act play by Savannah’s young folk was well received and the Big Brothers invite unaffiliated men at Moulton to attend church regularly.
Preaching services at 7 30 p m tonight led by Rev Kimbrough. Sunday school at 10 00 a m. Young Peoples meeting Sunday at 6 30 p m. Miss Fae Powers of Tabor ward delivers the first.
Next Saturday is a community event run by the Camp Fire Girls to sell little flowers for For-Get-Me-Not Day. Proceeds support care for World War I disabled veterans, and the appeal asks residents to respond wholeheartedly.
A letter to local Masonic officers announces Grand Master Percival will be in Moulton next Monday for a short stop en route to a Fellowship meeting in Corydon. The party expects to arrive about 1 o'clock and will hold a brief informal gathering at focal hall with officers and lodge members unable to attend.
Members of the church gathered Wednesday evening at six for a dinner and program honoring the pastor. The event featured a brief program after the meal, continuing the evening's activities in the church hall.
