Farming group urges collective bargaining for fair prices

The NFO proclaims its sole aim is to raise farm income to keep small family farms in business through collective bargaining. It argues stores hold products at their price, while farmers must demand a just price. Members are urged to join, with contact to Mrs. Victor Zintz in Centerville Iowa. Appanoose County NFO met at the Community Center with Neal Wagner presiding. Plans discussed for the county fair including presenting 4-H trophies and helping at gates. Bill Camerhn, National Staff Organizer, discussed the Master Contract and read a letter from National President Oren Lee Staley. Refreshments served by local members.

Will Construct Iowa's First Racing Roadway

Iowa plans a three mile sports car racing course near Indianola to open by next summer. Greenwood Roadway Inc will build the site on 276 acres with hills ponds and timber and provide a covered pit area lodge and camping facilities. 60 000 common shares of stock have been authorized by the state insurance commissioner to fund the project.

Waverly’s Oldest Resident Dies at 102

William Hamm, Waverly’s oldest resident, aged 102, died recently. He leaves one daughter, four grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Goat Birth on Elk Horn Farm Produces Quadruplets

A mother goat on the Clifford Jensen farm near Elk Horn recently gave birth to quadruplets. The farm reported healthy kids and plans to monitor them closely as they grow. Local residents noted the event as a showcase of the farm’s breeding program.

Sod and straw memories of homesteads and droughts

George Conrad of Adrian Michigan recalls born in a sod house in Franklin Nebraska in 1912 where walls were two feet thick and summer cooking moved to the sod dwelling. E M Newhall of Loma Montana remembers 1890s droughts, 1900s rains, Dakota Farmer ads drawing homesteaders, and settlers building sturdy Prairie homes despite hard times. TV Schooltime Begins Eleventh Year on WOI TV

TV SCHOOLTIME enters its eleventh year on September 17, 1962, aired by WOI TV Channel 5 with WOI TV coordinating via the Iowa Joint Committee on Educational Television. Programs, produced at WOJI TV Iowa State University and ISU closed circuit studios, aim to supplement classroom work for elementary pupils with series such as Americas Story, Lets Make Music, Landmarks in Iowa History, See and Do Time, and Adventures in Art. Stations WMT TV Cedar Rapids and KWWL TV Waterloo will broadcast five programs weekly starting in early September. KGLO TV will carry one weekly LAND.

Grandmother's Circle Club Holds July Meeting

The Grandmother's Circle Club gathered at Hilda Hanes's home on July 17 with eight members present. Activities included songs, poems, a roll call, a guessing game won by Bessie McDade, and refreshments. Next meeting set for July 31 at Inez Davis's home.

New Hope 4 H Club Holds July Meeting

New Hope 4 H Club met July 13 at Sandra Stevenson home with 7 members answering roll call. They set August 9 for an achievement show at Stevensons, with Mrs Stanley White as judge, and spent the day sewing after a noon sack lunch. Sandra Stevenson and Launa Tharp attended County Camp July 15–18 at the State 4 H Camping Center. Mr and Mrs A T Johnson of Dayton celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
