Eddie Martin flees after a prison break as authorities race nationwide. He hides under a dump truck, slips into customs at night, changes into work clothes, and makes for a secluded shack near a ranch hideout. He recalls childhood days of pretend crime and now faces a five thousand dollar reward that could rise with pursuit.
Eddie trusts no one after a heist and carries ten thousand dollars plus a revolver. While racing home through a storm he confronts his brother Dan, who tries to help, and a fatal shootout occurs as police close in. Eddie's mother, bedridden and unaware of the danger, fears for her son.
