Appanoose County Shippers Share in Producer Profits

The live stock shippers of Appanoose County receive 109.20 each from an $85,000 distribution declared by the Chicago Producers Board of Directors. Over the past three years producers have returned more than a quarter of a million dollars in profits to shipper members, cutting commissions by 25 to 80 percent and proving the success of cooperative livestock marketing. Iowa shipments accounted for over 40 percent of producer receipts, with 1,198 carloads from individual shippers and 5,467 from cooperative shippers in the state, representing 20 percent of total cooperative receipts on the Chicago market. The movement’s growth is seen as key to its goals, contingent on receipt volumes.
