Community notices detail the book exchange for grade texts on Monday August 28 from 9 am to 4 pm at the school. New editions only, torn or badly marked books excluded. high school geometry replaced this year. Also notes registration days August 26 and 27, and text distribution August 30.
Numerous visits and travels mark the week in Moulton and surrounding towns. Miss Jeanne Edwards visits aunt in Brookfield while Dan Wood returns from Traer Iowa. Milwaukee’s Mrs. Earl Buchanan visits her parents in Moulton.
Bing Crosby headlines a Sunday show at Moulton Theatre with Madge Evans Edith Fellows and Louis Armstrong. The program includes musical comedy and a news reel plus cartoons. Also features Wilderness Mail and Sleepless Nights with Bargain Night next Wednesday and ongoing Merchants program crowds.
Announcement for the annual Evans school reunion and homecoming in Fabius township. Henrich Taylor of Bloomfield will speak and other entertainment is planned. A basket dinner is scheduled for noon and all are invited.
The annual Hays reunion takes place Sunday at Abe Ransom’s home north of Moulton. A basket dinner will be served at noon followed by an afternoon social time.
Wesley Jennings was struck by a car with Wapello county plates while crossing near the Arthur Wood home on West Broadway. He suffered a badly bruised leg but no serious injuries were visible, and the driver fled after giving a blank slip as proof of payment.

Byron Carpenter of Winterset Iowa and Cornelia Starr of Moulton Iowa united in marriage on Sunday August 15 1937 at 10 25 in Lancaster Missouri. The single ring ceremony was performed by Justice Hale. Guests included Lavelle Spurgeon and Doyle Swaim as witnesses. The couple plan to reside near Pella Iowa where Carpenter works.
Reverend L A Hudson, pastor of the local Christian church for 20 months, resigned effective September 1. He offered his resignation to the church board last Sunday and will move to Fall City Nebraska with a higher salary. Falls City, a county seat town of over 5000, supports a 425 member church. The community regrets his departure but congratulates him on the larger opportunity.
Two groups from Moulton 4-H club earned premiums at Appanoose County 4-H Show in Mystic. Adams Brothers Quincy Lowell Raymond Elton won in Jersey heifers and judging contests earning prizes from $3 to $6 and a free trip to the State Fair. Murdy Brothers took top placements in Guernsey calves yearling classes and market lambs, plus honorable mention in one class.
Mrs G A Mackenzie, among 100 American Knights of the Garter members, received a coronation medal from England bearing King George and Queen Elizabeth with the date May 12 1937. She is traced to English Knight Thomas Beauchamp through ancestral lines.
A Plymouth coach driven by Charlotte Berry struck a fire hydrant at the Wood's store intersection while attempting a U turn. The crash cracked a water main and broke an electrolier shade near Ranes station, causing about $20 damage to both the car and city property.
The period brought ideal weather early in the year then a heat spike with the thermometer hitting 105 on Sunday night making it the hottest of the year. Cooling breezes and light showers provided relief Tuesday night.

Barkley to discuss science finding God in lab and its effect on faith. Mrs Barkley and Mrs Stuckey sing He Knows and tempers every wind. Robert L Mecklenberg new Moulton Schools music instructor to sing solo with Denmark Iowa Epworth League at 7 p m, no evening service.
Harold Hitchcock wed Ruth Hemmingway in a Methodist ceremony at the West Branch M E church on August 18 1987. The service featured maid of honor Margaret Hemmingway and best man Roy Garret with several family members as attendants. The couple will reside in Moulton at E Seventh St after a short honeymoon. Ruth taught in Perry and Harold operates the Hitchcock Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Moulton.
Southern Iowa reports set September 28 24 and 25 as the dates for Moulton s annual Jamboree and Short Course with committees named and plans advancing. A called meeting last Thursday night appointed general finance publicity speakers and program heads while discussions on premium changes live stock parade and exhibit donations continued. Departments include Sheep Dairy Cattle Horses Grain Poultry Culinary and 4-H leaders with further changes to be announced as plans form.
John Wallace a lifelong resident of the Moulton area died Monday at his home northeast of Moulton at age 78 years 9 months and 15 days after two years of declining health. Born November 15 1858 in Appanoose county he lived at his Moulton home for 46 years. Survived by two sons Earl of Cincinnati Carl of West Grove and daughter Mrs Daisy Tening of Des Moines along with other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by wife and two children. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2:30 pm at Hitchcock Funeral Parlors in Moulton conducted by Rev W F T Evans of Centerville.
The amateur contest on Moulton streets last Wednesday drew a strong turnout with eight entrants. Neal Fox won first prize for his harmonica and mandolin, Dorothy Ann Henderson earned second for a song, and Dale Barton placed third for clog dancing. Organizers noted the tough selection process and joked about drawing straws. The weekly question bee will continue with a prize for two pay questions. last week’s prize was split by Earl Barton and Pearly Stansberry.
Miss Francis Lee Haynes and her brother Bennett of Moberly Missouri are expected today for a visit at the J YF Kinkade home.
