Abe the Fighter and the Traylor Family Journey to New Salem
In summer 1831 Samson and Sarah Traylor with Josiah and Betsey travel from Vergennes Vermont by wagon toward the Sangamon country Illinois. They meet immigrant John McNeil at Niagara Falls and join the journey toward New Salem. The party suffers fever and Sarah tends a dying youth Harry Needles, then settles in New Salem welcomed by Abe Lincoln who helps fetch timber for the Traylor cabin. John McNeil arrives as ties form with Jack Kelso and his daughter Bim.
