Governor James V. Allred said he remains opposed to a general sales tax. Asked about a bill to tax sales for funding old age pension payments, he stated clearly that he is still opposed to a general sales tax.
Mrs Bee Bednar hosted the Bridge Club Tuesday evening with Miss Emma Hrock winning high honors and Miss Vivian Riske drawing consolation. A two course lunch followed. Mr August Stavinoha and family of Bomarton arrived last week to visit relatives and friends.
The Lutheran Ladies' Aid Society of Moulton held its regular meeting at the hall on September 5. The next gathering is set for Thursday October 3. The Witting school opened Monday with George Clayton as principal. Assisting him are R J Straves Jr and Miss Mae Schaefer in the staff lineup.
George Hauesler of LaGrange was elected president of the Sons of Herman, succeeding Fritz Schilo of San Antonio, who had died. James Jaeggli and Emil Dari lek Jr. were in Austin on business. Jesse Rehmer of San Antonio visited his parents. Mrs. F T Fehrenkamp, Mrs Erna Kotzebue, Harvey Louis Fehrenkamp and Dorothy Louise Fehrenkamp visited the George Bargman home at Gonzales last Thursday.
F T Barta has enlarged his building and opened a Red and White Store, expanding its retail space and inviting locals to visit the updated outlet for groceries and supplies.
Sheriff A. P. McElroy and Mr. Long of Hallettsville were in Moulton Friday on business.
