John Sonny Boy Keck, a five year old from Gonzales county, picked 117 pounds of cotton in one day and 1080 pounds in 12 days, challenging other five year olds to race.
Gonzales Texas September 15 about 2000 fair catalogues mailed for the tenth annual county fair to be held October 6 to 10 with reduced admission and new attractions. Local committees named and plans underway for a successful event featuring baseball football rodeo and local races plus valuable prizes.
Mrs Emil Papacek hosted a Bridge Club afternoon with 65 tables and coral vine decor. First prize went to Mrs Erna Biehunko for a necklace, second prize to Mrs John Cinadr for a vanity, guest prize to Mrs Roy Kotzebue for a table pad and tallies. Out of town guests included Mrs Robert Albrecht of Yoakum and Mrs William Eilers of Hallettsville.
Shiner Brewers hammer 10 hits against Casey as Moulton Eagles manage only two hits off Lefty Caldwell. Casey pitched valiantly but received ragged support in the one sided defeat.
Public weigher Charles Welff reports 3,265 bales of cotton marketed in Moulton up to 3 pm Wednesday. Receipts for the same date last year were 5,622 bales.
The Moulton Public Schools opened the 1931 32 scholastic session Monday with large enrollment. Patrons witnessed opening exercises after the singing of America. Superintendent W E Smith Rev A H Falkenberg school board PTA former students and others spoke. The compulsory attendance period starts Monday October 6 and runs for 100 consecutive days.
Ed L Biehunko Jr entertained twenty seven young friends Sunday on his grandparents lawn. Games and singing preceded a nile green and white birthday cake. Refreshments included angel food squares macaroons and sandwiches with green and white decorations. Gifts poured in from relatives including C Hissler and son Raymond Hallettsville guests.
The Lavaca county district court begins its fall term in Hallettsville on Monday October 5 with Elo Fehrenkamp and Rud Mueler of Moulton named to the grand jury.
The Flatonia Fair Association wrapped its 19th annual event Sunday night with a large crowd. Premiums were awarded across departments and a parade of speakers highlighted American Legion Day. The day featured music by the Moulton American Legion Band and a baseball win for Flatonia 2 to 1 over Hallettsville.
Birth announcements list a boy named Eugene James for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sta ry Jr on September 9. A girl Dorothy Annie born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stav inoha on September 8. A boy to Mr. and Mrs. Bohumir Bohuslav on September 12. A 6% pound girl Evgenia Mary born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wenske of Komensky on September 8.
Baursville school will begin the 1931 32 scholastic year on Monday September 21. Mr Vernon McAdams will preside over the faculty with assistants Miss Ruth Dooley and Miss Mary Belle Davis. All pupils are urged to attend opening day.
Mrs Otto Urban of Moulton is reported to be quite ill at her home, prompting concern among family and friends. The notice notes her residence and current health, with no further medical details provided.
Iva Sue Jaeggli celebrated her fourth birthday at her parents home Dr and Mrs Sam Jaeggli last Saturday afternoon. Pink and white decor with a pink birthday cake and tiny white candles complemented by balloon favors and clown pictures on whistles. Guests enjoyed cake sandwiches and ice cream clowns while the honoree received many gifts. Out of town attendees included Mrs Anna Ragsdale, Mrs HV Fredman and children, Mrs C S Jaegli, Miss Charlotte Widen.
A Dickson school picnic Sunday drew a large crowd who enjoyed a barbecue and time together. A dance followed with music provided by the Worthing band Day and night.
Culak Filip and Joe Culak Jr along with Miss Agnes Filipp, prominent young residents, were married at the Lutheran parsonage Saturday morning with Rev. A. H. Falkenberg officiating. Albert Ermis and wife served as witnesses. the couple then left for Galveston and other points.
The legislature remains in session at Austin doing little beyond drawing ten dollars per day for each member. Those who urged the governor to convene the session should now ask him to recall the lawmakers and send the "boys" home.
The Catholic congregation of Moulton will hold its annual picnic and bazaar at the parish hall on Sunday September 20 starting at 11 o'clock. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Dr. Sam Jaeggli of Moulton and F F Wotipka of Flatonia left Sunday morning for San Antonio to join a group of friends for a fishing trip into Mexico.
Mrs. I. J. Knesek and her daughter Adele with little Nola Mae returned from San Antonio last Wednesday after a several days visit with Mr. Jno Bucek and family.
The home of Joe Darilek near Shiner hosted a birthday anniversary gathering. Guests enjoyed dancing and singing as entertainment and a delicious lunch was served.
Dickson School will open next Monday September 21 with Mr Jerome Kocian and Mr Edwin Richter as teachers. All pupils should be there the first day.

Gerhard Henry Niemeyer aged 63 a Yoakum resident died Tuesday September 8 after a long illness Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon with interment in the Catholic cemetery Rev F O Beck officiating He is survived by his widow and one son Charles of Smithville two brothers George Niemeyer of Denison and Fritz Niemeyer of Knippa and three sisters Mrs J L Janssen Mrs Henry Koester of Moulton and Mrs E A Juengermann of Shiner
Otto J. Templin Jr and Miss Ethel Dukes were married at the Lutheran parsonage in Seguin with Rev Theo M Janssen officiating. Miss Dukes is the Dukes family's daughter and Otto J. Templin is their eldest son. The couple left for a Corpus Christi visit and will reside on Johnson Avenue after returning.
A Gonzales booster party toured Moult on Wednesday to advertise the annual fair and pecan exposition to be held in Gonzales from October 6 to 10. Claud Holley, secretary of the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce, joined the delegation and spoke with The Eagle.
Culak School announces opening on Monday September 21 with Mr. E. E Darilek appointed as teacher. All pupils are urged to be present on opening day as directed by the Board of Trustees.
St Josephs School of Moulton opened the 1931 32 scholastic session Monday morning September 14 with good attendance.
Laura Reese a 60 year old Gonzales educator died after an operation at a San Antonio hospital following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held in Gonzales. She leaves a sister Annie Reese of Gonzales and brothers August of Austin and Albert of Graham. She was part of the Inquirer family and a member of the Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Lavaca county rural schools held graduation at Hallettsville with Edna Mae Hermes of Koerth and Louis Darilek of Evergreen as valedictorians. The pair averaged just over 96. Anita Kurtz of Evergreen won junior spelling county title, Edwin Darilek took county essay top and second in district. he will attend Shiner High School.
Joyce Kopecky entertained with two tables of bunco at her parents' home Mr. and Mrs. Joe C. Kopecky. Maxine Bergfeld won the first prize string of beads, Fran kie Smith received the booby handkerchief, and Elizabeth Fried man got the guest prize hand painted georgette handkerchief. Lawn games followed with sandwiches cake and orange punch served.
A W Krause Jr returns to Dallas after spending several days with his parents Mr and Mrs August Krause. Mr Krause also called at The Hagle office and ordered the paper sent to his address.
