Washington Sept 8 Congress closed its session by appropriating 1 626 459 210 with total obligations and authorizations bringing the grand total to 1 856 384 485. Representatives Fitz Gerald and Gillett offered figures amid debate over the size versus prior sessions. During the session 17 800 bills and 642 resolutions were introduced in the House, 52 bills became laws and 33 public resolutions were adopted along with 150 private measures.
Henry N. Pope of Fort Worth was re elected president of the Association of State Presidents of Farmers Unions at a New Orleans meeting last week. O P Ford of McFall Alabama was re elected vice president and I N McCollister of Many Louisiana was re elected secretary treasurer. The group backed Pope against the eight hour law and urged arbitration of the labor dispute. A new agricultural transportation commission was created to study farm transport. The convention stressed cooperation and boosting farming profits through better storage and marketing methods.
Mrs Ed Studeman hosted a Thursday afternoon gathering of the Forty two Club with four tables of games, Miss Inez Kirk of Yoakum performing piano selections, and refreshments of ice tea sandwiches and fruit salad. Present were many named ladies including Mrs A F Kotzebue and Miss Inez Kirk.
The Lavaca Gonzales and DeWitt counties teachers institute in Yoakum gathers about 400 educators for expert instruction by Dr. J L Henderson Miss Maude Gordon Miss Mary Johnson and Mrs Lula Griesenbeck. The Moulton School opens next Monday September 18 and a banner school year is anticipated at the Sam and Will Moore Institute. W E Parr Supt.
A view of farm hardship contrasts farmer incomes with laborers. The bulletin notes about six and a half million farms yield $147 daily per farm family, while 4.5 million male farm laborers earn $1.35 per day and 1.5 million women earn 78 cents, supporting dependents while toiling 12 to 14 hours daily.
The report recalls a sequence of visits among local families on a weekend in Moulton School No 2 territory. Gus Huff and family hosted Robt Marburger and others, with several households sharing Sunday meals and company. Rud Huff returned home from Dreyer to visit his parents then left again.
The Moulton Home and School Club met Friday September 8 with strong attendance. They voted to clean school grounds, replace swings ropes, and host a Social Tea September 22 at Mrs. Studeman’s lawn. Teas to occur at other homes during winter with donations welcomed for club funds. Entertainment committee named Tillie Guenther Elsie Jaeggli and Adela Kuesek. Dues are due by October 13 to Mesdames von Lienen Studeman and Adela Kuesek.
Miss Leila Horne, long time employee at The Eagle force, departed for Edna on Monday to take a clerkship in the local post office. Best wishes are extended for success in the new position.
