Smithville's American Legion Auxiliary displays the Armstrong Trophy in Charles EB. Ragsdale's window after Mrs. E. I. Stalmach delivered it from Texarkana where Texas and Arkansas Legion members met. The award honors the auxiliary with the greatest membership increase before December 27, 1927, among the state auxiliaries.

Old Moulton couple welcomed a son named Adolph Jr on September 1. Clarence Hart and family and Sam Hart of Colony visited B. A. Hart home. Harms and Lillie Harms with the Noaks traveled to Cuero to bring home Mrs Otto Noak and Albert. A son named Joe was born to Joe Albrecht on September 11. The newborn with eye removal history remained in a serious condition in Cuero.

Run On Bank Quickly Checked in Moulton

Rumors of bank failures caused nervous depositors to withdraw funds from the First State Bank of Moulton late last week. By Monday morning, some money was withdrawn, then returned as the bank prepared for emergencies. Prominent figures from Shiner and Smithville delivered funds to shore up the bank. Officials urge not to keep large sums at home and to let money stay in banks to support the community.

George Placke Dead in Giddings Community

George Placke, 64, prominent Giddings citizen, died Monday morning and was buried Wednesday. He lived in Fayette county for many years and was well known in the region. Survived by his widow four sons and two daughters. Mr and Mrs F C Kaase and Mr and Mrs Otto Urban of Moulton attended the funeral.
