Two-Year-Old Twins Found Starved in Galveston Nursery
Galveston County officials found two-year-old twin Negro boys half starved in a back room of a basement nursery run without a license. Charges of contributing to the dependence and neglect of a minor were filed against Leona Grayce, the nursery operator, with bond set at 2000. The welfare officials described conditions as indescribably filthy and moved to identify and release eight other children kept in two small rooms. Willie Mae Cotton, the mother, 25, was arrested for vagrancy and said she did not pay child support.
