Texas refining and processing vital to state economy
Texas remains a leading crude oil and gas producer with refining and petrochemical processing underpinning its economy. The sector employs about 195,000 workers in refining and processing, with wages near $3.2 billion, and 60,000 direct petrochemical jobs plus 300,000 more in related trades. Texas has 52 refineries with a 4.6 million barrel daily capacity, about 27.2 percent of U S capacity, while competition increases as other regions expand faster. The shift since 1972 shows Texas sourcing less Texas crude, now 49.6 percent, with imports from other states and countries rising as pipeline and tanker logistics grow.

Morality Of A Nation Affects Economic Stability
A dated moralistic column argues national wealth hinges on family integrity and religious values. It links rising divorce, violence, and welfare costs to secular drift, cites historical Rome, cites rising U.S. debt, inflation, and a weakening dollar, and urges adherence to religious principles to avert economic decline.
