The Cleveland Indians defeated the Boston Braves to win their fourth game in the series closing Monday. Boston won game one 1 0 while Cleveland took games two three four 2 1 2 0 and 4 1 and the sixth 4 3.
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Williamson of Columbus Texas welcomed Frances Kay, a girl born Sunday October 3, weighing 8 pounds 5 ounces. Mrs. Helen Albrecht and Mr. Ed Boehm Jr and sons visited the family last Sunday. Boehm is now a grandfather and Albrecht a great grandmother.
Mr and Mrs Frank Albrecht welcomed a son named Calvin Joe at Dr Hugo Strieder Hospital Sunday October 10 at 3 20 AM The newborn weighed seven pounds two ounces and joins the family in the city.
The Old Moulton Fellowship Club will broadcast a program on Station KCTI in Gonzales Texas Sunday October 17 at 1 00 PM. Tune in for the program.
Mrs Selma Winkler of Corpus Christi visits Moulton residents while many others travel between Austin Kerrville Houston Galveston Seguin New Braunfels and Yorktown. Families including the Kolars Hulls Nachlingers Brunkenhoefer Koesters and Fews share weekend visits and homecomings across Texas towns.
The Moulton VFW Post and Moulton Parent Teacher Association plan a Halloween carnival and dance at Herman Park on Thursday October 28. Adolph Hofner and his Bexar County Boys will provide music and the event includes baked chicken and dressing served 6 to 11 PM with spooks and witches as usual Halloween features.
Delegates from the Moulton Fire Department and other citizens attended the semi annual convention of the Guadalupe Firemen's Association held at Schulenburg. Ad Richter of Shiner was elected president for the upcoming year. The 1949 convention is set for Port Lavaca in April.
A six pound ten ounce girl named Darlene Ann was born at Dr Hugo Strieder Hospital in Moulton on Saturday October 9 at 1 25 AM to Mr and Mrs Adolf Hanzelka of Corpus Christi.
A party sponsored by the F H A and F F A was held in the gym on Friday night October 8. Games and dancing were enjoyed by attendees. Refreshments were served and at 10 o clock everyone departed.
A 7 pound 14 ounce boy named John Charles Jr. was born at Dr Hugo Strie Der Hospital in Moulton on Saturday October 2 at 4 10 AM to Mr and Mrs John Otaha of Cistern.
Mr and Mrs C C Otts entertained about thirty five of their son Richard John s little friends Saturday for his seventh birthday anniversary. Refreshments were sandwiches cookies and red soda water. Plate favors were balloons and candy. The children enjoyed the occasion.
Members from Moulton attended a district meeting of Herman Sons Lodges in Lava buena and Gonzales counties at Shiner Sunday. Theodore Wenske was elected a delegate to the Grand Lodge Convention to be held in Houston in April 1949.
N K Haverstock, manager for Southwestern Bell, urged hunters to avoid shooting near telephone poles and wires as last year shots damaged about 2600 wires in the region. He said one quarter of long distance trouble stemmed from gunfire and warned that delays in repairs could interrupt vital service.
Christian Menning a prominent resident of Shiner died Thursday October 7 at 5 10 AM aged 55 years 3 months 2 days. The funeral was held from the family residence Saturday October 9 with services in the Shiner Catholic Church and burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
The Moulton Lions Club held its first luncheon of the month on Thursday October 7 with 28 members and one guest in attendance. President Lee Jarosek was absent and First Vice-President Marvin Merrem presided. The next meeting is set for Thursday October 21.
The Lavaca County Good Road Committee asks taxpayers to fund road improvements via a proposed bond issue. They state counties need funds, urge alignment with a long delayed Lateral Road program, and stress better roads, schools, and safety for residents ahead of the November 2nd election.
The Moulton Lions Club hosts a corn show and carnival on Saturday October 16. Exhibits must be delivered by Friday October 15 to the Ag Building or The Moulton Eagle Office with prizes for top entries. The event includes amusement features for all ages and a cordial invitation to the public.
Beverly Lee Ondrusek was stillborn at Huth Memorial Hospital Yoakum. Funeral rites were at Buffington Funeral Chapel Yoakum with interment in Moulton City Cemetery. Parents are Mr and Mrs John C Ondrusek of Yoakum. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Frank Ondrusek Yoakum and Mr and Mrs Wm H Schodde Moulton. Mother is the former Miss Wilma Sichd de of Moulton. Rev Bechter officiated.
A Texas A and M specialist explained egg grading and production. John V. Lindsey attended. Officers elected: Sponsor Henry Kalich, President Alvin Machelec, vice president Franklin Barborak, secretary treasurer Arthur Barborak, reporter Johnnie Kresta. Club lists eighteen members and most members have chosen projects.
The Evergreen school PTA held its first meeting of the year with 83 members enrolled. A chili supper is planned for Thursday. The 4-H Club reorganized its Boys and Girls clubs with Gertrude Michalec as president and Daniel Malina as program chair. Five Duroc pigs were secured for projects by Michalec, Mikes, Malina, Benedict Mikes, and Tijerina.
The Moulton Chamber of Commerce board met Friday night. The general meeting will be held at the high school gymnasium Monday night October 18 at 8 00 PM.
Geer Merrem Post No 292 of Moulton hosted its annual Legion picnic at Herman Park on Sunday. A hearty lunch was served at 4 00 PM and a dance followed with the Adolph Migl Band providing music day and night.
Bernadette daughter of Mr and Mrs Edgar Freytag celebrated her fifth birthday with a Monday party. Halloween theme featured orange and black crepe paper, a dark birthday cake with white frosting surrounded by orange pumpkins inscribed with guests names marking slices, plus gifts ice cream and soda water served.
Friends announce Mrs. August W. Janszen left Dunner Hospital last Thursday and is now resting and steadily improving at her home in Hallettsville.
Mr and Mrs John Cinadr and their son Jackie spent the weekend in Richmond Texas with Mr and Mrs Tom Fatje and attended the rodeo there.
Mr. and Mrs. Elo Wenske of Houston Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Foxworth and son and Mrs. Chas Cavalier of Galveston Mr. and Mrs. Victor Berger and children of Schulenburg and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Vallentine and children of Hallettsville spent the last two week ends at the home of their parents Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Wenske in Ko mensky and returned home Sunday afternoon.
