Austin reports October totals from 137 local boards. Texas registered 514,594 men under the 1948 act and classified 336,161 as available or deferred. Of these, 53,629 are available for service, 184,220 are over age, and 336,161 are classified in various categories. The state foresees 1,357 inductees after ten days’ notice and maintains a pool of about 42,000 for examinations and possible induction.
