Mr P L Netardus of Hallettsville named chairman of Lavaca County for the Texas United Defense Fund which will sponsor USC's campaign for 640 000 in Texas this year. The Lavaca County quota is 1370.00 and 388 servicemen from Lavaca County serve in the armed forces.
The Lavaca Home Demonstration Clubs held their annual luncheon on November 5 with Dr. George Constant of Victoria as guest speaker. Mental health was the topic, noting Texas faces many mental and emotional disorders and a high hospitalization rate. The Joint 4-H Council planned a November 12 meeting, with Oak Grove and Witting 4-Hs meeting midweek. Also reminders on Yearbook and vegetable cooking tips stressing freshness, minimal water, cooking in skins, and avoiding soda.
On Monday October 24 the Oak Grove 4 H Club girls met with Miss Margie Faltysek and Miss Irene Lev as adult leaders. Darlene Brunkenhofer read the minutes while Elorine Wenske reported and gave a hair care talk. Delores Faltysek demonstrated making a bear. The meeting closed with a song.
