World Agricultural Production Keeps Pace With Population Rise
FAO report notes 1954 production outside the Communist bloc rose over 25 percent since 1946-47. Rice milk and cotton up about 20 percent, wheat fats meat up 30 percent, fruit sugar 50 percent, rubber 80 percent. Despite abundance, many Far Eastern and some Latin American nations still have per capita consumption below prewar levels. Trade patterns shifted as North American exports declined after 1952 while Far East imports remained low, European imports stayed about 10 percent below prewar levels, and Latin American imports rose slowly.
