The O P A extends spare sugar stamps 9 and 10 to November 30 allowing five pounds per stamp. The note urges housewives to complete canning and mentions 51 remains valid for five pounds through year end. Also references Texas oil and gas well counts and a Navy Day exhibit at the Texas Memorial Museum.
A call to voters to exercise the franchise in local and national elections. The piece emphasizes turnout, the duty of citizens and the perils of abstaining, urging participation on election day as a guardian of freedom and democracy.
The Moulton Lions Club held its monthly meeting at a cottage on Thursday October 24 with 11 members present. The club cleared about 200 from a recent carnival and corn show. Gus G Fisbeck bought the corn for 255. The event drew 156 cars from 26 entries. The PTA may use carnival equipment at the Halloween carnival on the school campus. William Lee Young was authorized to construct another carnival unit. A bill of 31521 was paid for six 60 foot poles for the athletic field.
Mrs I G Janea returned to Austin Tuesday after spending several days in the home of Mr and Mrs W L Knape. Renee Merrem accompanied her to Austin for a several days visit.
The Department of Agriculture reports record or near record crops across the nation led by corn and wheat with total production up 2.5 percent from 1942 and 26.4 percent above the 1922 32 average. Potatoes peaches pears plums and truck crops also set records while cotton fell to a 25 year low.
County Agent J. W. Lindsey or Assistant Jim Sawyer will be in Moulton at City Hall or the Fire Station on the first and third Thursdays each month starting November 7. Bulletins and information will be available to farmers at all times.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend Open House at the Knape home in Moulton Texas on Sunday November 10 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in observance of their forty fifth wedding anniversary.
President Truman designates November 11 Armistice Day with appropriate commemorations and names November 28 as Thanksgiving Day. He urges national unity and renewed effort for lasting peace. The proclamation calls for civilian observance and broad participation by the American people.
President Truman spoke to the UN General Assembly addressing fears of a new world war, urging honest allied cooperation and not exaggerating differences. He called for international control of atomic energy for peaceful use, removal of fear of weapons of mass destruction, and affirmed the United States shift from isolation to active UN support.
The Komensky 4 H Club held its first meeting for the boys on October 23 at the school house with Assistant County Agent Saw yer and Principal Kellers present. Officers elected include President Frankie Bohuslav Vice President Arnold Bohuslav Secretary Treasurer Arthur Barborak and Reporter Franklin Barborak. Regular meetings are set for the third Thursday of each month.
Mr C O Miculka received a surprise barbecue dinner at his Rosanky home for his 70th birthday. Attending were Mr and Mrs C O Miculka and sons Eugene Daniel and Leon of Shiner. Mr and Mrs R L Miculka of Smithville. Mr and Mrs George Miculka and George Arnold of Wharton. Mr and Mrs I G Janea and children JaNelle LaNelle I G Jr of Austin. Mr and Mrs Malvin Merrem and daughter Renee of Moulton. and Mr and Mrs Anton Harbor and children Emil and Dorothy of Rosanky.
Mr and Mrs D E Lomax and son Wilton and Mr and Mrs H M Landrum of Houston spent Saturday evening with Mr and Mrs O F Knape and returned home that night Mrs Landrum stayed longer. County Judge Paul H Fertsch of Hallettsville visited Moulton Tuesday morning promoting the Good Roads Constitutional Amendment set for Texas voters on November 5.
Miss Marcella Mikulencak and Frank Gala Jr were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Ninth District Legion delegates, including Geier Merrem Post members, gathered in Bay City for the convention. the next district gathering is planned for Rosenberg.
National 4 H Achievement Week in Texas highlights 4 H Club work with over 100 000 youths to be recognized. At the start of 1946 Texas had 101 396 4 H members. girls canned 1.5 million quarts, served 1 152 000 meals, made 150 000 garments, and cleaned 7 440 bedrooms. boys produced 40 000 acres of forage crops, 750 000 chickens, 50 000 livestock, sold 5 260 000 pounds of beef and pork, and gathered 1.5 million pounds of scrap metal. Rural youths urged to join 4 H Club work.
Mr and Mrs Edwin Handsur of San Antonio celebrate the birth of a daughter on Thursday October 24 at Santa Rosa Hospital weighing 5 pounds 7 ounces. The baby joins Linda Carol Handsur with mother the former Leona Vallic of Shiner.
The Moulton P T A will sponsor a Halloween Carnival at the High School Campus Saturday night starting at 6 30 p m The public is invited to attend.
Charles Findeisen died at his son William Find Eisen near Oak Grove on October 26. Funeral services were held at Oehl Funeral Home in Moulton with Rev. K Windecker officiating. Interment was in Moulton City Cemetery. He was born in Germany March 14 1865 and died at 81 years 7 months 12 days. He came to Texas at 17, lived near Flatonia Lavaca County and later in Moulton. He married Christina Hofner in 1884. four children survived including Frieda Laake, Bertha Kaiser, Charles and William plus two stepsons and many grandchildren. A sister Mrs August Wangler also survived.
A Future Homemakers of America assembly Friday October 25 featured speeches by Marjorie Papacek and Willie Mae Kortwig, readings of the Governor's Proclamation, member introductions, a trip report, talks on world famine and Christmas festival, musical numbers, a play, and notes on Lily thread’s name tied to Lily Moore Schenk. The chapter plans to send ten boxes of items.
